After graduating from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and a debut concert in Wigmore Hall, Mats Bergström (b. 1961 i Gävle, Sweden) primarily worked as a session musician during the 1980s (electric and acoustic guitar). Studies at the Juilliard School were followed by a conscious orientation towards chamber music. He often works with our foremost singers or as a cross-boundary soloist and ensemble musician. During the 2011 BBC Proms, his performance of Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint was a major success at the Royal Albert Hall and in 2012 his recording was released on CD and Blu-ray. His discography also includes Die schöne Müllerin w/ Olle Persson, My Love w/ Malena Ernman, Sånger utan ord w/ Georg Riedel, Tárrega: Guitar Music and Dadodao. Engagements with e.g., Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, Ernman, Anne Sofie von Otter and Kerstin Avemo have taken him to the Wiener Musikverein, Berliner Philh, Royal Festival Hall, Teatro Colón and Théâtre du Chatelet. He has also presented his interpretation of Bach's works for solo violin, Sei Solo. A member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music since 2006 and in 2011 he received the royal Litteris et Artibus medal. |
