Jörgen Pettersson graduated from the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm, where, in 1986, as the first saxophone player ever, he obtained his soloist diploma with medal. He furthered his education abroad, under Prof. Jean-Marie Londeix at the National College of Music in Bordeaux. Since 1984, he has been member of the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, but is also much in demand as a soloist, and, in 1991, he was awarded the Society of Swedish Composers´ Interpretation Prize. A large number of compositions have been written directly for this innovative musician, notably the saxophone concerto Labyrinthos for which, in 2001, composer Arne Mellnäs received the prestigious Composition Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Mr. Pettersson readily transcends the boundaries between the established genres and often works in close collaboration not only with composers but also with choreographers and writers. Mr. Pettersson is one of the leading and most sought-after saxophone players both in Sweden and abroad. His solo-CD Saxophone Con Forza was released in 1995. |
