After having received his diploma as violin soloist in 1984, Joakm Svenheden was employed as leader of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. 1992-2000 he held the same position in the London Philharmonic Orchestra (under chief conductor Kurt Masur), and is now leader of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Among the conductors with whom Mr. Svenheden has had a very successful collaboration is notably Sir George Solti, who personally asked Mr. Svenheden to join as leader on a number of occasions when Maestro Solti conducted the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

In addition to his engagements as leader, Mr. Svenheden frequently appears as soloist. He has an extensive repertoire, including the not so often performed ”Violin Concerto” by Aram Kachaturian and the more frequent ”Violin Concerto” by Max Bruch, which he has performed on more than forty occasions. He is also a keen chamber musician and collaborates regularly with e.g. guitarist Mats Bergström (Duo a piacere). While living in the U.K., he coached at the Royal College of Music in London and he now teaches violin playing at the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm.
